HA NOI — Miss Viet Nam Mai Phuong Thuy is calling out for help for a two-year old boy who was deformed by ants and wild animals after being abandoned as a baby.
Thuy will make her plea tomorrow afternoon during an on-line discussion with readers of the The Thao & Van Hoa (Sport and Culture) newspaper at the website www.thethaovanhoa.vn starting at 2pm.
The 20-year old recently read an article in the newspaper about the little child called Ho Thien Nhan who was abandoned by his mother in a garden after birth in 2006. He was then attacked by the ants and wild animals who ate his right leg, testicles and penis.
He has since been adopted by a young couple in Ha Noi who now need money to pay for his surgery.
"I contacted the newspaper to tell them I would contribute some money to help the child. I was then invited to the on-line meeting," Thuy said.
In addition to generating support for the child, Thuy will also celebrate her 20th birthday tomorrow and launch her new 200-page book Phu Nu va Tuong (Women and Classical Drama) and DVD Hoa Dong Noi (Countryside Flower). Proceeds from the sales will help pay for Nhan’s surgery.
"I hope readers will support my idea," she said.
Interested readers can visit The Thao&Van Hoa’s office at 33 Le Thanh Tong Street tomorrow afternoon from 4pm to 5pm to buy the book and DVD, and to help Thuy celebrate her birthday. The party also sums up the two years Thuy has worn the Miss Viet Nam title. — VNS
