On July 15th, 2006 Phung Thien Nhan was abandoned at birth in Central Vietnam and mauled by a wild dog, resulting in the loss of his right leg, penis and testicles. Found by a passing villager he was transported by motorbike to Danang Hospital, where some local monks christened him Thien Nhan, or "Good Person".
On March 14th Thien Nhan, now 20 months old, was adopted by a lovely Vietnamese family in Hanoi. His new mom, Mai Anh, and dad, Nghin, are both journalists, and have two other sons, aged three and eight.
While Thien Nhan is doing well with his adoptive family, he needs surgery on his urethra as soon as possible to facilitate urination. He also needs prosthetic care and physiotherapy to prevent his good leg from becoming twisted; keep his leg stump mobile; and allow him to walk.
In the future, he will need full reconstruction of his genitals and hormone replacement therapy.
Any leads to PR, fund-raising, educational opportunities and medical care for this courageous little boy are highly appreciated. For more information, please view his blog at http://help-thien-nhan.com/ or contact Tran Mai Anh at hanoiguppy@gmail.com or Elka at elkeray@yahoo.com
